Back Can Xoroi

Can Xoroi

The Can Xoroi building was acquired by the Town Council in 2002 with the aim of turning it into a cultural centre.

In addition to the old oil mill (tafona) at Can Xoroi, which was first documented in 1888, it is also worth mentioning the permanent exhibition of painted antique tiles that can be found upon entering the building. The collection comprises more than 300 tiles from the municipalities of Deiá, Fornalutx, Inca, Palma, Llucmajor and Sóller.

The tiles were painted on site with geometric designs, plant motifs, zoomorphic figures and religious or everyday scenes. The custom of decorating the eaves of roofs spread throughout Mallorca during the 16th century, and today it is in Sóller and Fornalutx where most buildings with painted tiles are preserved.
