Sa Pobla, Manacor, Artà, Pollença and Muro vibrate with one of the most deeply-rooted celebrations in Mallorca.

On the 17th of January, the largest and most participative festival of the winter is held: Sant Antoni. One of the most eagerly awaited moments is the sortida dels dimonis (the departure of the devils), which marks the beginning of the festival on the 16th. Accompanied by traditional music, the devils dance across all the villages. At night, everyone gathers around the bonfires lit on the villages' main streets to taste typical products such as sobrassada and butifarrones, two typical local sausages, and espinagadas, pastries filled with vegetables and meat or fish, to the sound of popular songs and glosses, a Spanish form of poetry. On the 17th, the day of the patron saint of animals, the blessing of Sant Antoni takes place with a parade of floats.

El Pi de Sant Antoni (Saint Anthony's Pine Tree) is celebrated in Pollença. The tradition consists of going to Ternelles to look for a pine tree on Saint Anthony's Day. This pine tree, previously felled and trimmed, is usually large, between 20 and 24 metres. After lunch, the volunteers take it to the Plaça Vella in Pollença, where it is lathered in soap and planted. The young people then compete for the honour of being the first to climb to the top of the pine tree.
