The capital, also named Manacor, is the cultural, commercial and industrial center of the eastern part of the island.
The heritage of Manacor has valuable monuments, spaces and objects that range from prehistoric times to the present, and that can be seen in the Museum of History of Manacor. The prehistoric complex of s'Hospitalet Vell, the late-Roman basilica of Son Peretó, the neo-Gothic church Nostra Senyora dels Dolors, the Cloister of the Sant Vicenç Ferrer Convent (declared a National Monument, 17th century), the Museum of History of Manacor in the Torre dels Enagistes (14th century), the Mossèn Antoni Maria Alcover Institution and the restored flour mill, Molí d'en Fraret, home of the ethnographic section of the History Museum.
