KNIVES

The makers of knives, known as cuchilleros, provide farmers and fishermen with the tools they need to do their work in the fields and at sea. There are seven distinct types of typical Mallorcan knives, each one has a different shape depending on its use.

Nowadays, there are very few knifemakers left who continue the family tradition of passing on the business from generation to generation, teaching the techniques to their children and grandchildren. You can buy their products in some specialised shops, weekly markets and trade fairs.

WROUGHT IRON

Wrought iron is deeply rooted in our region as both indoor and outdoor decoration, such as barriers, windows, garden furniture, headboards and beds, mirrors, furniture, decorative items, lamps, balconies, gates, stairs, railings, fences...

In the late 19 and early 20th centuries, Modernism swept over the island. The use of iron was one of the primary features of this style. In Palma and Sóller, a simple stroll through the streets will reveal the spirit of the artistic and cultural movement.
