Olives have been grown on Mallorca since pre-Roman times. Olive oil, which can be created from this fruit, is a basic pillar of the Mediterranean diet and essential in traditional Mallorcan cuisine. Mallorcan olive oil has a protected designation of origin - "Oli de Mallorca". It is made with Mallorquina, Arbequina and Picual olives, through physical procedures that do not alter the product’s quality. The result is an oil of excellent quality, which preserves all the flavour and aroma of the fruit from which it comes.

OLIVE TOURISM

The olive harvest begins between October and November and many oil mills and cooperatives open their doors to showcase the oil-making process. Other producers offer activities throughout the year, such as oil tasting, gastronomic experiences, guided visits to oil mills and olive groves, etc.

The Fira de s'Oliva de Caimari (olive fair), in November, is the perfect occasion to discover the world of oil, do local product tastings and visit the old oil mill-museum (sa tafona), a symbol of the village’s olive-growing tradition.
