Parc Natural de Mondragó
The park has an area of 785 hectares, of which nearly a hundred are publicly owned and the rest are private. The territory is divided up and there are a large number of dry stone walls. Much of the land is used for the extensive cultivation of dry land: carob, almond and fig trees, and cereals. The use of water has also impacted the landscape and it is easy to find features of common engineering in the fields such as waterwheels, irrigation ditches, reservoirs or tanks.
There is also an abundance of scrubland with some areas of pine forest. On the coast, you can find the virgin coves of s'Amarador and Cala Mondragó. Mondragó is an ideal place to bird watch. Birds that are frequently seen include stone-curlews, wood pigeons, turtledoves, kestrels, hoopoes and many other species.
The park's office can be found in the village of Santanyí (Can Crestall, C/ de Can Llaneres, 8. 07650 Santanyí. Tel. 971 176 065) and the information centre can be found en route to Mongragó cove (ctra. de cala Mondragó s/n Tel. 971 181 022), near the ses Fonts de n'Alis car park. The centre houses interesting exhibitions about Mondragó's geology and the different habitats and rural constructions in the Mediterranean. The park also has various singposted routes and offers guided tours throughout the year.
The areas of s'Amarador and ses Fonts de n'Alis each have a public car park and a nearby recreational area, before you reach the coves. There are public toilets in these areas. Inside the park, there are two accommodation facilities, two bars and a restaurant, only open during the high season.
