Selva

At the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, the Tramuntana mountain range, lies this municipality which includes the villages of Selva, Caimari, Moscari, Biniamar and Binibona. All of them have a special charm reminiscent of the Mallorca of yesteryear, with their characteristic stone houses and peaceful, relaxed atmosphere.

In Selva, the main village, the parish church of Sant Llorenç stands majestically on a promontory, with the mountains as a backdrop, boasting a Gothic façade and a monumental staircase leading up to it. In Caimari, the Vella church, a small oratory from the 18th century, and the parish church of the Immaculada Concepció, from the 19th century, stand out. In Moscari and Biniamar, it is worth taking a stroll to contemplate the traditional architecture of their houses. Binibona is the smallest village, with only a few inhabited houses. 

The beautiful narrow mountain road that crosses the villages of Selva and Caimari is one of the main accesses to the Serra de Tramuntana. On leaving Caimari towards Lluc, on the left, you will find ses Rotes de Caimari. This is a complex of great ethnological and scenic value made up of terraces of olive trees, built using the dry stone technique, together with huts and stone walls. There is a viewpoint with parking space. 

The camí vell de Lluc, the old path of Lluc, forms part of the Artà-Lluc GR 222 hiking route. This mountain route, documented as far back as the 13th century, ends at the Lluc sanctuary, a place of pilgrimage since time immemorial. The route crosses the commune of Caimari, an extensive protected public space covered with pine, wild olive and holm oak forests.

As for traditional fairs, the Fira de les Herbes (the Herbs Fair) takes place in Selva on the second Sunday in June, dedicated to aromatic and medicinal plants, with small stalls where you can buy all kinds of products made from herbs: rosemary, orange blossom, myrtle… And on the third Saturday and Sunday in November, in Caimari, the Fira de l'Oliva (the Olive Fair) is held, a unique opportunity to get to know the culture of olive oil in Mallorca, learn how it is made and visit the old olive oil mill.

Throughout the year, Sa Tafona de Caimari, at the entrance to the village, offers oil tasting and the sale of typical products and, during the harvesting season, you can see the entire oil production process.
