Tradition of pottery

The creation of clay pieces is still alive in the interior, where objects such as pots and plates are molded, which are still used today to prepare traditional culinary specialties. Also made from clay are the emblematic Siurells. These are small figures with whistles, whitewashed with lime and usually decorated with red and green brushstrokes. They are one of the island's most popular souvenirs and one that dazzles both children and adults.

The highest number of potters can be found in Marratxi. Thanks to the Mud Route that runs through these lands of red clay and its itinerary, with stops in small family workshops (ollerías), and the annual fair Fira del Fang (in March), we discover the work of these artisans who worship clay.

To find out more about this trade and its history, a visit to the Clay Museum is a good idea. Visitors will be surprised by its restored mill and the large collection of clay pieces the museum houses.
