There is a clear commitment to sustainable growth and environmentally friendly waste management; for example, many establishments install water-saving taps and solar panels to supply their facilities with clean energy.

HOTELS AND FLATS

Most are found in coastal tourist areas, both near the larger sandy beaches and near smaller coves. You will find a wide variety of services and a great complementary offer.

There are different types of establishments, large chain hotels, smaller family-run hotels and exquisite boutique hotels.

The tourist flats also have furniture, facilities, services and equipment for preserving, preparing and consuming food and beverages. Some also offer dining services.

If you are more of an urbanite, Palma, the capital, has become a cosmopolitan destination with a wide range of tourist accommodation. Some of them are located in old palaces or emblematic buildings of the city.

RURAL HOTELS AND INLAND TOURISM

If you want to escape from the tourist areas, you can stay in the hotels located in the old quarters of the inland villages or let yourself be surprised by one of the hotels located in the countryside, integrated into the environment, between the mountains and the Mallorcan countryside. In this way, you will get to know the other Mallorca, the still unknown Mallorca with its customs and its people.

AGROTURISM

Farmhouses and manor houses have been lovingly renovated to welcome visitors looking for a different kind of holiday. This type of accommodation maintains the agricultural activity and is impregnated with the typical Mediterranean and family atmosphere that dates back to the 16th century.

Although they are outside the town, the agritourisms are equipped with the latest technologies, such as air conditioning and heating, Internet connection, etc. There is a wide and diverse offer and, depending on the category and price, you will find the quality you are looking for. In some cases, the estates are very exclusive, distinguished not only by a restricted capacity, but also by an exquisite customer service. Mainly, these types of establishments are found in the Tramuntana mountains and in the Pla de Mallorca, but you can also find rural estates within a short distance of the coast.

SHELTERS, HOSTELS AND CAMPING SITES

If you want to enjoy a more direct contact with nature, Mallorca has shelters and camping areas on public estates and in protected natural spaces. There are two networks of shelters, one that depends on the Council of Mallorca and the other one that belongs to the Government of the Balearic Islands, which is managed by the Balearic Institute of Nature (IBANAT).

Free camping is not allowed. Camping is only allowed in designated areas and by prior reservation. It is very important to bear in mind that fires may only be lit in authorised places and at authorised times of the year.

On the other hand, the younger ones have the possibility to stay in one of the hostels, in multi-bed rooms.

RELIGIOUS GUESTHOUSE: MONASTERIES, SANCTUARIES AND HERMITAGES

If you are looking for absolute tranquillity, one option to consider is the religious buildings that use some of their rooms for accommodation. They are usually located in unique enclaves, many in elevated locations with extraordinary panoramic views. In addition to enjoying a stay in an environment imbued with peace and spirituality, as you are in direct contact with nature, you have the possibility of going on excursions or hiking in places of great beauty.

TOURIST STAYS IN DWELLINGS

Mallorca also offers the possibility of staying in a holiday home as an alternative to traditional accommodation. These are dwellings for residential use that are marketed as tourist stays for short periods of time: days or weeks or, at the most, one month. They can be found all over the island: in the countryside, in the mountains, on the coast, in towns and in urbanisations. They can be both single-family detached dwellings and multi-family dwellings. In order to be able to offer this use, they must comply with the established regulations and obtain a registration number.
